The problem: Current office systems do not facilitate semi-private, organic collaboration amongst team members. Research was conducted and revealed that Herman Miller was currently offering three separate solutions that only minimally solve all of the needs of the spontaneous group collaborator. The first solution is to create divisions of space by use of screens. However, this solution does not take into account any tools that groups need to successfully work together, such as paper, writing utensils, laptops, books, projectors, etc. The second solution is multi-functional space dividers. These provide not only a wall to separate but a surface on which to write. This solution does not take into account storage, sound, long-term use, privacy, tools, and furniture. The third solution is an innovative cart that provides vertical and horizontal space divisions. However, this solution is not for groups that need to collaborate and brainstorm for hours, does not provide a writing surface, sound dampening, and lighting. The perfect space for a group to collaborate in would have to be able to do all of these things. Inspiration was drawn from pre-fab spaces. + SKETCHES + FULL SCALE MOCKUPS + MARKET RESEARCH + ORTHOGRAPHICS + BACK TO PROJECT ![]() |
